A Brief History

The Walkerston Cricket Club was founded over 60 years ago in 1956 and used the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel as its headquarters.

It`s main objectives at that time was to travel around the surrounding area playing against other “pub” teams and enjoying the social aspect of the game.

The 1970`s brought about the birth of our junior club, and also our entry into Mackay cricket fixtures.  Our junior teams continue to make our club proud following in the footsteps of players before them.   A recent highlight for our juniors was being awarded Club Champions in 2017/18.

Our Club is proud to field teams in all senior grades and have players who excel in all levels of the game.  Our teams have won many premierships and have produced elite level representative players. Walkerston Cricket Club boasts the most enviable Poole Cup record of any club past or present.

Off the field, we have an enthusiastic group of volunteers who work hard to ensure our Club continues to go from strength to strength.  We are committed to improving the facilities at our home at McLennan Park, Walkerston which has included a new state of the art set of training nets for all of our players.

Scrubby Victory Song

We are the Scrubby boys

We are the old red rooster boys

We’re the team who’ll never let you down

We are the boys from Walkerston

They’ll never beat us, they’ll never cheat us

They won’t defeat us

We’re rough and tough red roosters
